Punjab Kings (PBKS) trounced RCB by 54 runs in Mumbai’s Brabourne Stadium on Friday. As a result, the Punjab Kings were able to reclaim their position in the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022.
Before the PBKS team won by 54 runs, Jonny Bairstow and Liam Livingstone scored hundreds, which contributed significantly to the team’s total of 209.
Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis, the openers for the Royal Challengers Bangalore, replied fiercely at the top of the order as they chased down 210 runs to win the game. Because Kohli hit two fours and a six in the first three overs, the RCB scored 31 runs without losing a wicket.
As soon as Rabada took down Kohli in the field of the short fine leg, the contest was practically finished, and Kohli’s team lost. After RCB skipper Faf du Plessis was run out by Rishi Dhawan in the previous over, Faf du Plessis was eventually run out in the over that followed.
Both Rajat Patidar and Glenn Maxwell were instrumental in bringing the RCB back from the brink, and their partnership was of great value. When Maxwell was scoring runs with his signature switch hit, Patidar smacked two sixes with his bat.
At this point, RCB had already reached their half-century with 95 runs, and the fifty-partnership had ended. Rahul Chahar broke the partnership after Patidar made a mistake by batting far on.
Maxwell was run out for 35 by Harpreet Brar, which meant that the RCB had to play without fifty percent of their team. Dinesh Karthik was the second batsman to be dismissed after Arshdeep had already taken his first wicket. The RCB needed to score 90 runs off of the remaining five overs at that point.
When Kagiso Rabada bowled Harshal Patel in the penultimate over of the innings, the RCB were still 55 runs short of their target.
The change in the batting order for the PBKS team, which occurred before the start of the innings, saw Harpreet Brar take the place of Sandeep Sharma.
Jonny Bairstow smashed two sixes and four fours in the second over, helping his team score 22 runs. Shikhar Dhawan ended the 50-run partnership for the first wicket at the other end of the pitch by hitting two fours and a six in quick succession.
Maxwell took the wicket of Dhawan for 21 runs before Bairstow hit two sixes in the penultimate over to reach his half-century and put an end to any remaining uncertainty about the outcome of the match.
Wanindu Hasaranga dismissed Hasaranga after Rajapaksa was caught at short third man. Hasaranga was the batsman who was dismissed. PBKS had reached 100 runs by the ninth over of their innings before Bairstow’s innings were halted by Shahbaz Ahmed in the 10th over. The opener had been caught by Siraj earlier in the game.
The run-scoring onslaught was continued by Liam Livingstone and Mayank Agarwal, who both hit three fours and two sixes in their innings.
Harshal Patel ended the fifty-run partnership after Agarwal was run out while he was inside the circle. Hasaranga grabbed the wicket of Jitesh Sharma with the last ball of the 16th over, bringing the score of PBKS to 163-4.
After Harpreet Brar hit a six, Harshal Patel came up with a catch to end the innings. PBKS took the lead at the score of 200 thanks to a four from Livingstone, and Livingstone’s half-century was reached with relative ease.
In the final over, Livingstone hit two sixes and two fours, which contributed to the scoring of 24 runs. Harshal Patel, who only allowed four runs in the PBKS’s first innings of 209/9, was the one who was responsible for his final removal.
In the Indian Premier League, Punjab Kings prevailed over Royal Challengers Bangalore by a score of 54 runs. Both Liam Livingstone (70) and Jonny Bairstow (66) scored a half-century for their respective teams.
